It is important to note that these patients can be successfully treated, their intellectual development is normal and they become full members of society. These mechanisms may more or less be compensated by proper orthodontic treatment. Some treatment centers apply orthodontic treatment before the first operation in early childhood, others prefer to start in a temporary or mixed dentition. It was found that preoperative treatment with plates does not give better orthodontic results compared to no preoperative treatment, and facilitates feeding of the child. However, some of the centers in Europe and the world apply early orthodontic treatment in order to facilitate the surgical operation.
